An exciting opportunity in forest management planning

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) plans, develops, and sells through auction, a substantial and representative portion of the Province’s annual available timber volume. The bid prices received from auctioned timber support the Market Pricing System (MPS) in setting stumpage rates for coastal and interior operating areas of the province. The costs incurred by BCTS also provide data for the Tenure Obligation Adjustments, contributing to another integral part of the MPS.

The Practices Forester is accountable for performing a wide variety of professional services including operational planning, cut block and forest road layout and development, planning and evaluating silviculture activities, and ensuring compliance with the Forest Stewardship Plan and the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives. The range of duties assigned to a particular Practices Forester will vary from Business Area to Business Area due to the geographic location, apportionment and management requirements.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or be eligible for registration as an RPF with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) and two years (gained within the last five years) of experience in operational forestry such as forest tenures, cut-block and road development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Meeting daily and weekly production requirements

Scheduling personnel, submitting weekly payroll, and generating daily reports

Qualifications:

Education Required: Trade Certification or Associate’s Degree, preferably in a technical, mechanical, or forestry related discipline

Years of Experience Required:

3-5 years of supervisory experience, or

3-5 years of experience in an industrial setting

En tant que chef de file de l’éducation forestière depuis 1946, le CTFM accorde une importance primordiale à la qualité d’apprentissage de ses étudiants. En tant que Chef de département, vous dirigerez une petite équipe de professionnels dévoués qui s’efforce de créer des environnements d’apprentissage exceptionnel pour ses étudiants.

Le poste de Chef de département se rapporte au Directeur général du CTFM situé à Fredericton. Le Chef de département est responsable de toutes les activités quotidiennes incluant la pédagogie, la qualité du milieu d’apprentissage pour les étudiants et ainsi que l’équipe professorale. Comme Chef de département, vous serez responsable de la préparation et la gestion des budgets, l’élaboration des horaires et de la discipline étudiante. Celui-ci aura aussi la responsabilité de consulter les partenaires de l’industrie forestière et communautaires, et participera à l’élaboration et à la prestation de tous les programmes et services éducatifs du campus de Bathurst. Le candidat sera un chef de file axé sur les résultats qui encourage la participation de tous les groupes d’intervenants qui contribuent au succès général du CTFM. En plus de vos fonctions de leadership et d’administrateur, vous aurez aussi une charge importante d’enseignement. Être passionné du succès des étudiants est impératif à ce poste.

Les qualifications requises pour ce poste sont un diplôme de deux ans dans un domaine connexe et un minimum de dix années d’expérience de travail récent et connexe; ou un baccalauréat dans un domaine connexe et au moins huit années d’expérience de travail récent et connexe; ou une maîtrise dans un domaine connexe et au moins six années d’expérience de travail récent et connexe. L’expérience de travail connexe doit inclure deux années d’expérience progressive dans un rôle de leadership, avec une gestion directe du personnel et des ressources. Les candidats doivent démontrer comment ils répondent à ces qualifications sur leur curriculum vitae.

Une compétence écrite et orale en français et en anglais est requise.

La préférence pourrait être accordée aux candidats ayant de l’expérience dans un milieu postsecondaire.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Work with a third party consultant to develop harvest plans, layout and obtain approval for approximately 1,800,000 m3 annually.
  • Liaise with Government personnel to obtain plan approval.
  • Support harvest operations as required.
  • Participate in consultation with Indigenous and local communities.
  • Work with local quota holders to integrate plans.
  • In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, actively seek out innovative solutions to multiple challenges involving various stakeholder objectives.
  • Map production.
  • Data management.
  • GIS spatial analysis.
  • Apply decision support tools to identify opportunities and support business decisions.
  • Contribute, perform and be accountable for team cost expectations while supporting safety, quality, production, community and environmental objectives.

 

PREREQUISITES:

 

  • Sc. in Forestry or diploma from a recognized forestry school.
  • Must be eligible to register for a professional designation in Alberta.
  • Self-motivated individual who works well within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • GIS/GPS experience with ability to use arcview/arcmap.
  • Experience with Woodstock Modeling platform and REMSOFT analytics platform would be an asset.
