Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Forestry Superintendent, the Woodlands Supervisor provides professional, technical and administrative services in the areas of Operational Forest Development, Harvesting, and Road Construction. Duties of this position include: operational planning, full-phase cutting permit development to meet regional Standing Timber Inventory objectives, implementing harvesting and road construction plans, and ensuring plan consistency and quality. This position will require an individual who is:
• Able to work in remote area with flexible work arrangements;
• Able to supervise activities consistent with legislative and mill volume requirements, and allow efficient access to wood supply;
• Adaptable to change and can manage multi projects and targets while providing active contractor supervision.
Qualifications:
• Class 5 drivers license in good standing;
• University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry;
• Active Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Forest Technician (RFT);
• 3-5 years relevant experience;
• Strong understanding of technical forest management including operational planning, logging systems, and silviculture systems;
• Demonstrated analytical, communication and computer skills, including ArcGIS, are required for this position;
• Possess a positive attitude and high degree of motivation;
• Proven ability to work with First Nations, external stakeholders, and government agencies;
• Attention to detail and a willingness to learn are a necessity;
• Team player with strong organizational skills.

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the SNB Marketing Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the Marketing Board. The Marketing Board must adhere to existing provincial legislation and regulations, and policies as established by the Board of Directors.
The General Manager is responsible to initiate, promote and manage positive relationships with all stakeholders to ensure that the mission and goals of the Marketing Board are met.
The General Manager supports initiatives that help members realize the maximum sustainable value from their woodlots, while following sound forest management principles and practices that promote long term sustainability of the resource.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the overall budgets for the SNB Marketing Board.
  • Responsible for the administration and management of the staff and operations, ensuring that every aspect is performed in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with staff, woodlot owners, industries, public, other woodlot owner organizations, associations and government departments. Identify markets for forest products by building relationships with mills receiving forest products.
  • Works to achieve fair prices for forest products supplied by woodlot owners.
  • Promotes sound forest management and sustainable harvest levels within the SNB Marketing Board region.
  • Responsible for the oversight, development and execution of the Provincial Silviculture Program

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry, Business Administration or applicable field, and or applicable work experience.
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in general management or applicable managerial work experience
  • Well established organizational and communication skills, Excellent computer skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and to manage in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the General Manager, Prairie Woodlands, the Woodlands Manager is responsible for the delivery of approximately 1,700,000 m3 of fibre to the High Level, Alberta manufacturing facility.

The Woodlands Manager maintains direct oversight of the forest resource planning, optimization of timber development and coordination of scheduling, harvesting and delivery of the quota wood from company managed tenure volumes and for all required purchase wood volumes. The Woodlands Manager will work closely with the Manufacturing Plant Managers, Marketing Department and members of the Woodlands team to develop and implement operating strategies.  A key component of this position is the ability to develop consensus, enrollment and alignment among internal and external stakeholders.

The position also participates and presents Tolko’s strategic views on various forest policy and technical forestry committees, at a regional and provincial level as required by the Chief Forester.

Qualifications:

  • 8–10 years related industry experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven leadership ability;
  • University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry;
  • Active Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Forest Technician (RFT) designation or be eligible for registration;
  • Strong working knowledge of lumber manufacturing operations is a necessity;
  • Must be able to accept accountability and initiate and manage change;
